Debug

Debug Working Group: This group is comprised of a number of experts from large corporations and technical leaders in the field of debug. Debug Working Group ("DWG") activity is coordinated with other industry bodies that are active in the debug space; this ensures the group’s output is appropriately inclusive of the work of major providers and is fully aligned with any pending output from other associations.

As part of our review of the needs of heterogeneous processor multi-core systems (“HMS”) it became apparent that current debug offerings are inevitably focused on the exclusive needs of individual and proprietary product offerings. It is also clear that the completeness of the OCP Specification offers a unique opportunity to present a debug solution that can span the spectrum of these disaggregated entities and provide a unified Debug Specification that readily ties together these otherwise separate tools and schemes.

The support of HMS is seen within OCP-IP on several fronts: The DWG activity noted here, the activities of the Cache Coherence Working Group (developing solutions inclusive of ALL processor types presenting such systems) and our activity relating to Network-on-Chip (NoC) performance. Cache Coherence work is described within the “Specification” section and the NoC work may be found under the “University” heading of www.ocpip.org.

The DWG recently released a landmark white paper, which discusses an approach to a standardized OCP-bus compliant debug interface.  This white paper is available free at www.ocpip.org/socket/whitepapers.  The current status of the DWG can be found in our latest quarterly Newsletter at www.ocpip.org. If you wish to join the DWG or have questions relating to debug, please contact us at admin@opcip.org.

Debug Specification: The OCP-IP Debug Specification 1.0 is now a formally published Specification available on the OCP-IP Web site at www.ocpip.org/socket/ocpspec/.  The OCP-IP Debug Specification provides an inclusive, unifying solution to OCP-IP members and the industry at large.

As part of our review of the needs of heterogeneous processor multi-core systems (“HMS”) it is apparent that current debug offerings are inevitably focused on the exclusive needs of individual products and offerings. It is also clear that the completeness of the OCP specification offers us a unique opportunity to present a debug solution that can span the spectrum of these disaggregated entities and provide a unified Debug Specification that readily ties together these otherwise separate tools and schemes.
