Press Release
Open Core Protocol International Partnership
Celebrates First Anniversary
PORTLAND, ORE. — December 9, 2002 — Open Core Protocol
International Partnership (OCP-IP), an industry association delivering a
common standard for intellectual property core interfaces, or sockets, that
facilitate “plug and play” SoC design, celebrated its one year anniversary
on December 3, 2002.
Several of the major accomplishments of the past year include: a membership
roster rapidly approaching the 50 member mark, 25 articles printed in
various worldwide publications, more than a dozen press releases, the
kick-off of a University program, a highly successful trade show and
conference program, and six active working groups covering Marketing,
Vision, Specification, System Level, Memory Semantics and
Verification.
OCP-IP working groups are maintained and evolved by coordinated efforts of
leading industry experts. All members are encouraged to join and contribute
to OCP development. OCP is the only non-proprietary open standard for
connecting third-party IP.
The organization also anticipates the release of the 2003 OCP specification
in early Q1 of 2003. The enhanced specification will include: a model for
write transfers which provide for precise end-to-end-responses; an enhanced
burst model that provides both burst length and packet style transfers;
support for specification endianness; support for user-defined, in band
command data and response extensions; even lighter weight OCP interfaces
with read only/write only/FIFO style IP cores; and support for lazy memory
synchronization.
“I am extremely proud of what we have accomplished in the last year,” said
Ian Mackintosh, president of OCP-IP. “The fact that we were able to
accomplish so much in such a short time is proof of the support we are
seeing throughout the industry. We look forward to even greater
accomplishments in the next year as we shift our focus to further adoption
and implementation.”
Typical trade organizations can take several years to see the growth that
OCP-IP has enjoyed. Even in difficult economic times, OCP-IP has seen its
membership base rapidly expand over the course of the year because OCP-IP
offers tremendous ROI to its members by providing tools, training and
technical support necessary to quickly make IP cores OCP-compliant and ready
for rapid SoC integration with other third-party IP.
“The Governing Steering Committee (GSC) and working groups have been
extremely active and achieved amazing results over the past year,” said
Anssi Haverinen, Research Manager of Nokia Research Center. “We at Nokia are
proud to be a founding member and GSC participant.”
About OCP-IP
The OCP International Partnership Association, Inc. (OCP-IP) was formed in
December 2001 to promote and support the open core protocol (OCP) as the
complete socket standard that ensures rapid creation and integration of
interoperable virtual components. OCP-IP's founding members and initial
Governing Steering Committee participants are: Nokia [NYSE: NOK], Texas
Instruments [NYSE: TXN], MIPS Technologies [NasdaqNM: MIPS], United
Microelectronics Corporation [NYSE: UMC], and Sonics, Inc., the inventor of
the OCP technology. OCP-IP is a non-profit corporation focused on delivering
the first fully supported, openly licensed core-centric protocol that
comprehensively fulfills system-level integration requirements. The OCP
facilitates IP core reusability and reduces design time and risk, along with
manufacturing costs for SoC designs. For additional background and
membership information, visit www.ocpip.org.
