Press Release
OCP-IP and Si2, Inc. Announce
Collaboration
PORTLAND, ORE. — September 22, 2003 — Open Core Protocol
International Partnership (OCP-IP) and Silicon Integration Initiative (Si2)
announce memberships in each others’ respective organizations. Mutual
memberships will allow the industry organizations to collaborate more
closely and gain a greater awareness of the direction for each organization.
Both organizations believe working together will increase awareness in the
design community, while at the same time illustrating and strengthening the
belief that open technologies are the wave of the future.
OCP-IP is the association providing a common standard for intellectual
property core interfaces, or sockets, that facilitate "plug and play" SoC
design, and Si2 is the organization focused on improving productivity and
reducing cost in creating and producing integrated silicon systems.
The value in a relationship with Si2 for OCP-IP is a closer collaboration
and synergy with open IP content and open EDA systems; for Si2 the
collaboration enables support for open technologies.
“Si2 pursues rapid development, promotion and adoption of open
technologies,” said Steve Schulz, president of Si2. “While Si2 is currently
focused on the overall design flow, OCP-IP supports those same goals by
standardization of SoC IP interfaces. Collaboration by both organizations
will greatly benefit the industry as a whole.”
“As the only truly open, fully supported industry standard socket, it is
important that OCP-IP enter relationships such as this; that facilitate
improved collaboration, helps us communicate to our memberships and thus
better serve industry interests,” said Ian Mackintosh, president OCP-IP. “We
look forward to working with Si2 in the future.”
About OCP-IP
The OCP International Partnership Association, Inc. (OCP-IP) was announced
in December 2001 to promote and support the open core protocol (OCP) as the
complete socket standard that ensures rapid creation and integration of
interoperable virtual components. OCP-IP's Governing Steering Committee
participants are: Nokia [NYSE: NOK], Texas Instruments [NYSE: TXN],
STMicroelectronics [NYSE: STM], United Microelectronics Corporation [NYSE:
UMC], Sonics, and other industry leading companies. OCP-IP is a non-profit
corporation delivering the first fully supported, openly licensed
core-centric protocol that comprehensively fulfills system-level integration
requirements. The OCP facilitates IP core reusability and reduces design
time and risk, along with manufacturing costs for SoC designs. For

About Si2
Si2, a non-profit standards organization, has a mission to achieve industry
adoption of collaborative technology and services that deliver higher levels
of silicon design integration, enabling compelling advantages for our
members through reduced costs, faster time to market, and improved IC design
capability. For additional background and membership information, visit www.si2.org.
